Halloween Costumes

Good evening Pisay! Halloween costumes are now officially allowed for all students from 1st to 4th year tomorrow, October 28! Teachers may come in costume too! :) In addition, some teachers may give bonuses and treats to those who come in the most fantastic attire!

Just two requests from the Office of the Director though: (1) No scandalous, lewd, revealing (no short shorts), gory, or violent costumes. And (2) keep your ID on you at all times.

Drop by our various units and offices for special treats. The DO will be open for Trick or Treat tomorrow during UB to students with a clean record from the first day until now. Feel free to post other promos in this post. Thank you very much!

• Math SW1/HW1 (purple filler):
  • Oil spills from a ruptured tanker and spreads in a circular pattern. If the radius of the oil spill increases at a rate of 1m/s, how fast is the area of the spill increasing when the radius is 30m?
  • The volume of a sphere is changing at a rate of 4pi cm^3/s when the radius of the sphere is 2cm. How fast is the radius changing per second?
  • Given the rate of change of the radius, find the rate of change of the surface area.
  • A car traveling at a rate of 30 ft/s is approaching an intersection. When the car is 120 ft. from the intersection, a truck moving at 40 ft/s crosses the other. How fast are the 2 cars separating 2 seconds after the truck leaves the intersection?
  • A plane is flying at a constant speed at an altitude of 10,000 ft. on a line which will take it over an observer on the ground. At a given instant, the observer notes that the angle of elevation of the plane is pi/3 radians and is increasing at a rate of 1/30 rad/s. Find the speed of the plane.

Physics Seatwork

1. A 2.00-nF capacitor with an initial charge of 5.10 μC is discharged through a 1.30-kΩ resistor. Calculate the current through the resistor, 9.00 μs after the resistor is connected across the terminals of the capacitor.  What charge remains on the capacitor after 8.00 μs?  What is the maximum current in the resistor?

2. Calculate the resistance in an RL circuit in which L = 2.50 H and the current increases to 90.0% of its final value in 3.00 s.
